It Is Everyone's Job to Care for the Earth

My parents took caring for the environment very seriously when I was growing up, and I learned many great lessons during those years about just how to live an eco-friendly lifestyle. When I met my husband, I noticed that he drove a "gas guzzler" vehicle, but I fell in love with him anyway! When we eventually got married and moved in together, I realized just how much he neglected the environment. Thankfully, he was very receptive to my lessons about caring for the earth and I realized that he didn't want to harm the planet, but he just didn't realize he was doing it. This made me realize that there are likely many other people out there who just don't know how their small everyday actions affect the environment. I decided to start a blog to share my tips for protecting the earth with everyone who wants to learn!

Protecting Your Family From Radon

When it comes to keeping your family members safe, you need to ensure that there are no toxic gases present within your home. Many of the gases that find their way into modern living spaces are odorless, colorless, and can be extremely difficult to detect. Radon is one of these gases.

Here are three tips that you can use to successfully test your home for the presence of radon in order to fully protect the health and well-being of your family members in the future.

1. Purchase a testing kit from your local hardware store.

If you want to complete a radon test yourself, you can easily check your home for the presence of this dangerous gas by investing in a DIY test kit from your local hardware store.

Be sure that you look for a test that has received approval from the Environmental Protection Agency, as these tests will produce the most accurate results. Read through the directions carefully before you begin to administer the test, then follow the directions exactly to ensure your readings are accurate.

2. Hire a professional to help you determine radon levels in your home.

If you are worried that a DIY test may not produce the most accurate results or you simply don't want to be bothered with administering the test yourself, you can always partner with a company that specializes in testing indoor air quality to determine if toxic levels of radon are present in your home.

These radon testing companies have access to specialized equipment that can measure even the most minute amounts of radon gas. Working with a professional testing company can give you the peace of mind you need when it comes to protecting your family from radon exposure.

3. Always complete a follow-up test.

As you plan to test your home for radon, it's important that you plan on administering at least a couple of tests in order to achieve accurate results. Radon levels within your home can fluctuate, so a single test might not produce an accurate reading when it comes to determining if your home is plagued by persistently high radon levels.

Conducting a follow-up test will allow you to determine if a high reading on the first test was an anomaly, or something that needs to be addressed by a professional in order to protect your family.

Being able to successfully test your home for radon will help you create a safer and more secure living environment for your family in the future.
